The Uprising of Local News

Local news experts and practitioners get together to find a way to meet civic information needs

The Road Map for Local News interviewed 51 individuals from across the country who are with non-profit, commercial media across all forms of distribution, leaders of member organizations, news networks, news funders and researchers. Their goal was to get their perspectives on what they thought were the needs on how to better our local news sources for our communities.

In 2022 from June to September they had seven interviewers who had spoken to the 51 individuals. Jodi Spotted Bear, our executive Director for IMFA, was selected as one of the individuals. As you may know, IMFA is a non-profit organization that does local news for North Dakota and surrounding states. She stated, “This lack of information contributes to an onslaught of social, educational and economic ills that are plaguing our communities.”
